1839—Dec 23—Joseph Smith organizes the first LDS congregation in Philadelphia (7th and Callowhill)

1840—Jan 14—Joseph Smith preaches to thousands of listeners at the First Independent Church of Christ (412 Lombard, later First Universalist, now Kesher Israel)

1840—Jan 25—Joseph Smith preaches at Nantmeal Seminary, Chester County

1841—Philadelphia branch president Benjamin Winchester publishes The Gospel Reflector, the first independent Mormon periodical

1843—June—Brigham Young preaches in Philadelphia

1850—Mar 25—Gen. Thomas L. Kane speaks at Historical Society of Pennsylvania to clear up misconceptions about his friends, the Mormons

1881—Jun 15—Church reorganizes the Philadelphia Branch

1928—Church purchases its first chapel in Philadelphia

1938—May—Heber J. Grant dedicates new Philadelphia Chapel (316 South 46th Street)

1960—Oct 14— Harold B. Lee and Sterling W. Sill create the Philadelphia Stake
